Calibration of the thickness measuring devices MIT-SCAN-T/ MIT-SCAN-T2 / MIT-SCAN-T3
In line with TP D-StB 12, thickness measuring devices must be calibrated at yearly intervals by a BASt-authorized calibration institution (BASt: German Federal Highway Research Institute) and provided a valid calibration certificate. TP D-StB 12 permits only the use of thickness measuring devices with a valid calibration certificate. Both the valid calibration certificate as well as the calibration mark must be kept available at the construction site.
MIT Mess- und Prüftechnik GmbH is one of the official BASt-approved calibration institutions and offers this service. Please refer to the BASt website for further information.
You can have your device calibrated for use with all the measurement reflectors or standard formats listed in TP D-StB 12 or STLK. Alternatively, you can limit calibration to the number of reflectors you need for your application. Our service is oriented towards your requirements.
Calibration of new devices
Each new device (MIT-SCAN-T3) leaves our company with a valid calibration certificate. Before the device is delivered, it is calibrated for use with the customers ordered choice of reflectors. Seven standard formats are available. Standard formats are MIT circular plates made of aluminum or steel as well as foils and sheet metals made of aluminum. The device itself has all reflector formats configured. When a customer selects the subset that is relevant for his application field, the number of reflectors displayed is limited. However, the available reflector portfolio can be flexibly expanded or restricted at any time, i.e. with each calibration. The calibration certificate is issued for one year. A clearly visible calibration mark is attached to the device. The notch shows the next due calibration date (e.g. June 2016).
Calibration of existing devices
Annual calibrations are strictly required according to TP D-StB 12. The calibrations must be performed by a BASt-approved calibration institution.
If a repair of mechanical parts is necessary (e.g. exchanging a wheel axle), no additional calibration (within the yearly interval) is required. If modifications to the electronics are necessary, the thickness measuring device should be re-calibrated.

Calibration procedure
We perform calibrations on our semi-automatic test stand. The MIT thickness measuring device is mounted on a carriage. When the calibration program is started, the carriage passes horizontally over the measurement stand. Reflectors are in place at their different depths and are passed over several times. The calibration program stores the results and presents a graphical display of all measurements at the end of the calibration procedure. A calibration certificate is only issued for devices that meet the accuracy requirements specified by the manufacturer.
Calibration of the dowel position measuring devices MIT-SCAN-2/ MIT-SCAN-2M/ MIT-SCAN2-BT
Dowel position measuring devices should be validated every two years as recommended by the manufacturer and be equipped with a current calibration certificate. MIT Mess- und Prüftechnik GmbH offers this service.
The device is calibrated for use with your applied type of dowel and tie bars on a specific laboratory test stand. It is furthermore tested for functionality and accuracy. Our services are based on your requirements. These include:
- Calibration with customer-specific dowel and tie bars
- Calibration with customer-specific baskets
- Certification
- Function test
- Accuracy validation
- Issue of calibration certificates
